20th of May 2019 “Naming of the park after David Bowie” at Villa Martini.
It was the summer of 1969 when David Bowie, who was then in his twenties, came to Monsummano Terme (PT) to take part in the “Festival Internazionale del disco”, first italian appearance of the Thin White Duke. Bowie took part in the contest, born from an idea of Alfio Magrini, with the song When I Live My Dream and he won best production’s prize.
To remember the event and the presence of the internationally famous singer, the town, first and only in Italy, on Monday 21st of May 2019,at 5 PM, will name a public place, the park of Villa Renatico Martini, after the British artist.
The choice is not random, as the villa is home to the Museum of contemporary and 19th century’s art, museum of regional relevance, place par excellence of youth creativity and the park to the community has always been the privileged place for hosting performances. Moreover, Bowie’s great passion for art and his influence on contemporary art legitimize its choice.
The naming of the park also wants to strengthen the Municipality of Monsummano Terme’s will to represent the opening of the entire community to cultural innovation and its will to be the “launching pad” for all those young artists who can start from here for an important development of their career.
In the meantime, the preparations for the concert are underway. It will be held on Tuesday 22nd of May, at 9 PM, in Piazza Giusti. The band led by Paolo Fresu will perform with a musical project created specially for the occasion:
